It all started when I attended a self-help course in
1977, and was first introduced to guided imagery.
By 1979 I had used this technique to
cure myself of a long-standing hay fever allergy, to
stop smoking, control my weight, and correct torn
cartilage and ligaments in my knee instead of needing
surgery.
I then went on to study and teach this program for 10
years with its founder, Ken McCaulley.
This experience led me
to return to graduate school where I earned my doctorate
degree in psychology, specializing in guided imagery. I
then used this professionally to help others with
chronic illnesses, including cancer, strokes, diabetes,
heart disease, and chronic pain.
My work gained national recognition that culminated in
my co-authoring the Mind-Body Medicine chapter in Dr.
Andrew Weil's book, Integrative Oncology,
and writing my
